FAQ

What is the difference between a fancy color diamond and a colorless diamond?

Colorless diamonds are graded on the D-Z scale, where D represents complete absence of color. Fancy color diamonds fall outside this scale entirely — their value increases with colour intensity rather than decreasing. Fancy Vivid Yellow or Fancy Deep Orange commands premium pricing precisely because of colour strength, not despite it.

Why does GIA certification matter for large loose diamonds?

At collector level, GIA documentation provides the only universally accepted independent verification of the 4Cs, colour origin, and treatment status.

For premium fancy color stones in particular, the Color Origin determination — confirming that colour is natural rather than induced by irradiation or HPHT — is a non-negotiable component of any serious acquisition of exceptional loose diamonds. Without it, two visually identical stones can differ by multiples in value.

What makes old mine cut diamonds different from modern brilliant cuts?

Old mine cuts were fashioned by hand in the 18th and 19th centuries to perform under candlelight, resulting in proportions — high crown, small table, large culet — that produce a distinctive warm brilliance that modern precision cutting does not replicate. These are genuine heritage pieces: the cutting tradition is extinct, making large examples in fine colour both historically significant and optically unique.

Are large loose diamonds available for custom jewelry commissions?

Acquiring diamonds in loose form is specifically advantageous for bespoke commissions: the stone can be evaluated independently before setting, and the full GIA documentation remains accessible throughout the process.

The collection includes material suitable for significant commissions across a range of cuts and colour categories. Consultation is available to match specific gemological requirements with available inventory.

What carat weights are available?

The collection focuses on diamonds where size becomes a genuine rarity factor — generally from 3 carats upward, with several specimens exceeding 10 carats. Specific availability varies as individual stones are acquired and placed; consultation provides current inventory details and can address specific requirements on request.
