The Patek Philippe Ref. 3574A is among the rarest and most underappreciated vintage models of the manufacture. Made only between 1970 and 1974, exclusively in steel and in just some five hundred examples, it stands apart in the house’s heritage: a flat tonneau case, a sporting rigour of line and an all-steel execution that anticipated the aesthetic Patek Philippe would later unfold in the Nautilus and Aquanaut.
This example carries the most coveted of its three dial variations — a deep blue, with guilloché applied markers and hands in white gold recalling the clous de Paris motif. It is the blue version that collectors consider the rarest of all. The barrel-shaped case with screw-back, measuring 35 × 40 mm, is notable for the noble slenderness of its profile and its water resistance — a rare marriage of dress-watch restraint and everyday practicality.
The watch is driven by the celebrated ultra-thin hand-wound calibre 23-300, bearing the Geneva Hallmark: a movement with a Gyromax balance, roughly 3 mm thick, a benchmark of the watchmaking art of its era. Produced in the smallest of numbers and highly prized by connoisseurs today, the Ref. 3574A is a true gem of any collection.
