Description
A heavy braid of gold, worked in three colours at once. The strands of yellow, white and rose gold run alongside one another and cross over in turn, so the colour of the necklace shifts along its length rather than staying fixed — one section reads warm, the next pale, the next pink, depending on which strand happens to be on top.
Poiray made the Tresse in more than one size, and this is the Grand Modèle, the large version. At 37 centimetres it sits close to the base of the neck as a collar rather than falling onto the chest, and at 121 grams it has the weight to hold that position and stay put. It is a piece that works on bare skin or over a plain dark neckline, where the braid is the only thing asking for attention.
The house was founded in Paris in 1975 by Nathalie Hocq, on the Place Vendôme, and built its name on clean forms in gold — jewellery meant to be worn every day rather than kept for occasions. This necklace is signed Poiray and numbered 8030, with a maker’s mark attributed to the workshop of Khrusos.
