Christie’s Rare Watches auction took place live on 13 May at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.
The earnings of “Rare Watches” auction, which featured 159 watches and had a 98% sales rate, came to CHF 26,513,004 (US$29,713,124).
A total of 47 countries sent bidders to the auction, with 27 percent of them being new customers. With 52% of purchasers coming from Europe and the Middle East, 15% from the Americas, and 33% from Asia, there was activity among buyers worldwide.
At the event, four watches sold for more than CHF 500,000 apiece, while six watches sold for more than CHF 1 million each.
Legendary vintage clocks from Patek Philippe, independent watchmakers, and a sizable collection of Rolex watches made for the Sultan of Oman were all on display at the sale.
The most notable item was lot 84, a limited-edition stainless steel Patek Philippe for Tiffany & Co. that brought CHF 2,233,000 (US$2,498,876) at auction.
